Senior Reilly Butler skips sixth hour at Milford High School every day this semester.  It’s not because she is a bad student, and her schedule allows it. That’s because she is in a program called Career Internship.

“It helps me with responsibility, my homework, and being able to strategize my time well,”said Reilly Butler. She works as a receptionist at In Harmony Yoga and Wellness in Milford.

Many high schools now have a program called Career Internship. which gives students the opportunity to have a job and get credit for that work experience rather than being in the classroom. This program is for students who are in the 11th and 12th grade. If students chose to take the program, they have to have a minimum of 5 hours a week and are allowed to get paid.

Career Internship lets students provides students with opportunities to explore possible career paths. Letting students work will help students gain a real-world experience.

Having high school students take the course shows people they are motivated and ready to work and learn new things and ideas.

Taking the internship and having the real-world experience can later help them to gain a better work ethic in life or learn to adjust to thing,” I didn’t necessarily like my job, but I learned to take criticism well,” said Benjamin Walsh who worked at a local restaurant as a prep cook and restaurant attendent.

Choosing to take the internship now in high school will help to not waste time and money in college on classes students may not enjoy. Students might find out an an early age what they like and don’t like by having a job.

Some students who take the program might enjoy the job they have. Students may like having career internship because it teaches them things about a job they never knew about, “ I think it’s a good idea to have career internship at the school because students can learn more about a career before going into something,” said Ryane Heater.

Students can learn things for the future about business on how to talk to customers or work certain technology. They can learn how the business is ran and what it takes to own a business.

Having the career internship at the school and having the students get a job will help teach them to work and what it takes,” It’s good to have career internship because it helps students learn about the work area what needs to be done”, said Yvonne Krimmel.

Career Internship  is a great thing the school has to offer students.The program helps to teach students what it is like in the real-world and how to treat others.
