The New PSAT10 In Progress

Jason Weaver, Staff Writer

This year’s standardized tests are changing as the new SAT  test will enhance the challenge for students. Previously taking the ACT, Juniors all around the state will be taking the SAT this year and sophomores will be taking the PSAT to help them prepare for next year. The PSAT test is not like the PLAN test that the freshmen and sophomore classes had previously taken. The new tests include: math, writing, reading portions. The PSAT test provides students an opportunity for sophomores to qualify for this year’s National Merit Scholarship. Both sophomores and juniors will be taking the test April 12, 2016

Juniors are required to take the SAT and it is also true to say that it wasn’t always given to the junior class free and on the school’s time, MHS Counselor Adrianne Hincka explained that the PSAT is more of an opportunity to obtain better and more accurate knowledge about yourself when it comes to test taking and how much the student body truly is prepared for college. She said it is, “Aligned with the curriculum.”

If any junior wants to take the initiative of improving themselves in the art of test taking then take the opportunity to do so with this free and recommended online test by going on www. Khan.org/sat Anyone who is taking the PSAT or SAT will be able to take and see a little preview for what is in store for them this spring. This is also a huge chance to kick some rust off of those test taking strategies and improve them before it’s too late.
