The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League. Since 2004, the game has been played on the first Sunday in February.  The game was created as part of the merger agreement between the NFL and its rival at the time, the American Football League. It was agreed that the two championship teams would begin playing in an annual AFL-NFL World championship game until the merger officially began in 1970. The first Super Bowl game was played on January 15, 1967 after both leagues had completed their 1966 seasons. The NFL restricts the use of a “Super Bowl” trademark, and it is frequently referred to as “the big game” or other generic terms by non-sponsoring corporations. 

When a team wins the Super Bowl, they are awarded The Vince Lombardi Trophy. The trophy is named in honor of NFL coach Vince Lombardi, who led the Green Bay Packers to victories in the first two Super Bowl games.

When interviewing many people on what’s their favorite thing about football, it’s always the Super Bowl. “What else is better than watching the Super Bowl with your friends. I love to bet on it with a bunch of the guys, to see who thinks will win the game. I havent lost in 3 years.”  stated in an interview with Peter Sherman, a Milford Student. Kids will grow up and have an insane amount of memories during the Super Bowl Sunday. Will Sjogren said “I don’t remember the last time I didn’t watch a Super Bowl. Why would you want to miss the bet game of the year. I cant wait till February.”

Nothing is better than watching your team win the Super Bowl. For many teams it takes decades to even play in the Super Bowl, so when your team is there, it’s making history. The Super Bowl also gives you a memory that you will never forget. “I will never forget when Brady won his 6th and final ring for the Patriots, I’ve watched them for years.” My uncle said when referring to who the greatest team at the time was. 

You’re watching the game with your family and friends and your team wins. For the rest of your life, you will always remember being with your family and friends to celebrate the team’s success. Many people have to wait a lifetime to witness their team win it, and it gives many mixed emotions. People don’t realize how hard it is to get to the Super Bowl.

Many teams, like the Detroit Lions, haven’t even won a Super Bowl. In fact, they haven’t even played in a Super Bowl. Teams in the league will go 20+ years or longer till you get to watch them attempt to make history. “The Lions will never win a Super Bowl. I won’t change my mind till they have a new owner”  Jack Foster, another Milford Student said when asked if he thinks the Lions will ever win a Super Bowl.

As a Detroit fan, we hope to see success in the Lions in the future, and hopefully they will one day win and hold that Lombardi Trophy. 

The NFL does not look to be slowing down at all. With great talent coming in every year, the NFL is just adding to their viewers who watch it on TV. They should have no worries any time soon on having to stop the Super Bowl, with it growing more and more each year.
