It takes an extraordinary amount of strive and hard work to achieve success in and out of school. As one of the top 10 of the senior class, Alexis Cornett has achieved great success already in life and holds a great spot of honor in Milford High School. This success extends to her involvement in academics, extracurricular activities, as well as the art program.

Cornett will be attending the University of Michigan to study political science. She eventually is interested in pursuing a career in the legal field. Particularly entertainment law or constitutional law. Cornett also plans to write as a side job. She’s always been interested in writing and would love to write a novel one day.

Cornett is the editor and chief of the Milford Messanger, was a part of the varsity pom team all four years (was co-captain for basketball season), president of the student council, involved in NHS, Deca International finalist this year, and participated in Milford’s theatre program throughout her high school years.

Cornett’s felt most inspired throughout her high school career by Mr. Hamilton. She has had him as a teacher since she was a sophomore and has had him ever since. She was in a unique position as she took his AP Language class as a sophomore, where she first had him as a teacher. She felt very welcomed and open with him in the newer classroom environment.

“There’s a lot of subject matter in AP Lang that is very revealing of humans themselves… so I feel like you need a good teacher to guide you through that. And that was definitely Mr. Hamilton for me.”

Cornett also looks up to her teachers Mr. McGrath and Mr. Vosk.

“I had Mr. McGrath for AP government, and just always has the funniest stories. He’s a character.”

“I had Mr. Vosk for AP biology and AP chemistry which both have very hard curriculum. But he helped me through several subjects I wasn’t very strong in and gave me advice on how to get better at such things.”

Cornett attributes her success to her parents as well as herself.

“I always say you have to put in the work yourself. I work hard to achieve my goals and my academics as I am willing to put the hard work in.”

She also believes that as a student you have to be naturally curious.

“Sure there’s going to be a lot of things where you question whether you will ever use a derivative again in my life? But, you just have to be open-minded to learning things you aren’t always curious about.”

Cornett’s biggest lesson she learned about school was to never close the door on anything you think is too difficult.

“If you close yourself off to I’m good at this or I’m good at this, you probably won’t be open to learning anything new,” Cornett said. “You might try something new and find you want to incorporate that in your life, so never close yourself off to classes you think you might not enjoy, because I’ve learned the most from the ones I didn’t really want to take.

Cornett is a special girl involved in extensive activities in her life. But she believes it is most important to try new things in life. She believes in hard work and motivation bringing her success. Cornett has made a legacy for herself here at Milford and has a bright future ahead of her.
