Girls varsity basketball hopes for a winning season

Coming off a district win against Lakeland last season, the girls varsity basketball team is ready for a new season. With the team only having two seniors and the majority juniors, it will be an interesting season.

¨Being on the basketball team all four years, I wish all of the seniors were still on the team,¨ said senior Natalie Killingbeck, ¨But don’t get me wrong, I love my team.¨

The girls team expects big things for their team this year. Junior Megan Wallace hopes to win another district championship, and make it further than they did last year.

Most of the girls goal this season is to win districts for the second year in a row. ¨I hope we play together as a team this season and pull off a lot of wins. I want to become closer with my team because it’s my last season on this team.¨

Most teams are very excited to play their rival or have a good record season, but Wallace is excited for other aspects of the game. ¨I am most excited to bond with my team this season,” said Wallace. “I like our team a lot and we all know each other very well. We all get along very well on and off the court.¨

Senior Mallory Barrett explained that they are still figuring out their team chemistry, but she is excited to see how they play now that they have figured out. “I’m excited to see how good our team can be.”

The team practices two hours every day and in order to help them beat the teams they have never beat before. “We have never beat Brighton, Hartland, or Howell. We would like to beat one of those teams,” said Wallace. Seniors Killingbeck and Barrett would like to beat Lakeland again for their last year. It is the biggest game of the year, and it is Milford’s rival.

The 2016-2017 season of girls varsity basketball should be very good. The new team has a lot of chemistry already and are all team players. They are expecting many wins this season, as well as new friendships and bonds that can never be broken.
