MHS students enjoyed another exciting Spirit Week last month. Game faces were on at Milford High School; they only come twice a year, so students were getting pumped all week. What is Spirit Week you ask? Well, students dress up wacky all week to show off their crazy spirit for their class of graduation. It gets very competitive this time of year to see who will win most class spirit. This year’s theme for homecoming was City Lights. Everyone was pumped for Friday, also known as class color day! Freshmen are yellow, sophomores are red, juniors are black, and seniors are white.
How do people really feel about what goes on during this special week? What are some changes that our students at Milford High School want to see different during the Pep Assembly and Spirit week?
Bella Bodmer, a freshman here at Milford High School said, “I’m excited to see if our school has spirit. So far, it has been awesome to see everyone dress up.”
Seniors were even more excited for their final Homecoming week.
“I’m happy I’m a senior and get to wear white now,” Senior, Becca Gonwicha said. “We have been looking forward to this year since (we were) freshmen and we’re ready for this!”
Some students went to extraordinary measures to demonstrate their excitement for MHS.
Dylan Stover, a sophomore explained, “Spirit week was sweet! I painted myself and spray painted my hair red.”
Where do these fun ideas for Spirit Week originate? Senior Chloe Zeabari, a Leadership student, explained the process the class uses to make this week possible.
“We brain storm in our committee for the days then narrow it down for the best ones,” she said. “After that, we put the days up for the leadership class to vote on. All this planning takes a few weeks.”
Zeabari said there is a special Spirit Committee that plans this week.
“The reason why we have spirit week is to get students a chance to get involved with the school, show their school spirit, and to support our Milford Maverick football players at the game. We also have the dance and the parade that we were all looking forward to,” Zeabari said.
Leadership, Student Council, and the Spirit committee put on all this work to make this a fun event for all. The next spirit week will be before Winterfest!
