This massive hit, having grossed over 365 million dollars worldwide, is considered one of the most successful original films of the year, breaking several box office records. Sinners shows dark drama, and earned attention for its bold storytelling and powerful performances.
F1: The Movie (PG-13) – Joseph Kosinski. The new movie was originally filmed during the real Formula 1 race weekends. This movie captures a high-speed look at the world of racing that leaves viewers on the edge of their seats with breathtaking action scenes.
Weapons (R) – Zach Kregger. This was written as a way to cope with the grief of losing his best friend and long-time collaborator, Trevor Moore. Weapons stood out for a thrilling mix of mystery and action. The details and pacing of this movie really stood out, as it kept the audience wanting to see more.
One Battle After Another (R) – Paul Thomas. This movie gets its name directly from a 1969 statement by the revolutionary political group, The Weather Underground. Thomas produced an emotional war film and the amazing battle scenes earned worldwide attention.
Frankenstein (R) – Guillermo del Toro. In the movie, the star Jacob Elordi prepared for the role of Frankenstein by studying Japanese dances and singing to capture the unique mannerisms for his role. He brought out a chilling modern twist to a classic story. His creative visuals made his work memorable.
The Phoenician Scheme (PG-13) – Wes Anderson. The original Phoenicians were skilled seafarers who invented the alphabet and the color purple. Wes used this and took mystery, history, and action and made it all one fast-paced, clever adventure.
How to Train Your Dragon (PG) – Dean DeBlois. The film uses dragon puppets on set to help the actors perform, a heartwarming and very imaginative starting point for his very well-known and watched series. With incredible animation and emotional depth, this really showed how Wilder’s movies have remained a favorite over the last few years.
Companion (R) – Drew Hancock. This movie is about a woman named Iris who discovers she is actually an advanced robot designed for companionship. Hancock’s careful use of tension and suspension kept viewers guessing until the final moment, while immersed in an eerie atmosphere.
The Minecraft Movie (PG) – Jared Hess. This movie stars Jack Black, a very well-known actor. Although Black was originally considered for a different role in this movie, he was cast as the lead character, Steve. Hess captured the fun, creativity, and charm of the world’s famous game through colorful animation and family-friendly humor.
Superman (PG-13) – James Gunn. This movie was shot in many locations in Cleveland, Ohio, just a couple of hours from Milford. As many people on the production crew were from Cleveland, Ohio. Gunn takes an iconic superhero and makes it into a star film. His version of Superman showed the audience why the character remains a symbol of hope, which is a shift from the version that came out in 2013 wrote by Zack Snyder which was called, The Man of Steel, shows the darker side of the world.
