Everybody has a favorite time of the year, and a favorite season. With all of its golden hue, vivid pink, and rusty brown leaves scattered across the landscape, the smell of freshly baked donuts, and the impending sense of Halloween around the corner, fall is one of the most popular seasons. In the Milford-Highland area, there are many things to do in our towns and the surrounding areas. There are must-see places and events that if you go to them, it will be worth it. Here are the top 5 things to do around Milford in the fall:

1.Cider Mills

Who doesn’t love cider mills? A classic favorite of everyone, no matter where you live. You can go there to eat donuts, drink cider, and have fun! Many Milford students thought cider mills to be one of the places to go in the fall. “I like going to cider mills because it smells good, the cider is always good, and the warm donuts are the best,” Sophomore Ryan Murphy said. Around Milford, we have many options if you are looking to visit a cider mill. These include Diehl’s Cider Mill in Holly and Long’s Family Orchard in Commerce.

2.Football

Another common response from our Milford students was watching or even playing football. You may be a dedicated member of our MavPack and going to Milford’s football games, or you could be going to college or professional games. No matter which one you go to, it is sure to be a fun time! Sophomore Jacob Swerc said that he loves watching and playing football, “because I get to see some of the best athletes in the world, but it’s mostly to get all the ladies for me,” he said. Tailgates and barbecues are the basics to making sure you have a great time before the game as well.

3.Halloween

Halloween has many different qualities that will spike people’s interests, and it is also one of everyone’s favorite holidays. Some people like setting up dozens of decorations throughout their yard and all over their house. You drive down the street and see gravestones dotting landscapes and jack-o-lanterns lighting up porches. Other people love carving these jack-o-lanterns, and there are many really creative designs that can be made. Some people may say they are too old for it, but many Milford students still love to go trick or treating. “I still go trick or treating for the candy and only the candy. I feel like I’ve earned it because I had to walk around and go get it,” said sophomore Mike Smith. Overall, Halloween is one of America’s favorite holidays and having fun and getting scared is what it’s all about.

4.Haunted Attractions

There are many different haunted houses, hayrides, and walks through the forest that you can go to near Milford. One of the most famous, Erebus, is located in Pontiac, but it is well worth it if you are looking to be scared. Many of these attractions will actually have you trembling in fear this Halloween season. ¨It was pretty frightening, but it was very fun as well. It was definitely worth the hype,¨ said sophomore Alex Barron on Erebus.  If you are someone who lives for the thrills and chills in life, then any of our local attractions are a must-see.

5.Homecoming

It may have happened just recently, but Homecoming is always sure to be one of the most spirited times of the year at MHS. It all starts with spirit week, and every day students will dress up in unique and crazy outfits you wouldn’t see every day in Milford. Then there is the homecoming game, where the ceremonies are as much of a must-watch as the game itself. It all culminates in the homecoming dance, where around 1,000 Milford students gather and have a great time! ¨Who doesn’t love homecoming? You get to hang out with your friends and have a great time,¨ said sophomore Alec Jennings.

Overall, the fall season is one of the best times of the year. There are so many things to do and places to go. Don’t get left out of the fall frenzy and try to do as much as you can this fall season.
