With many historic homes in Milford, some residents have an opportunity to live in a truly unique setting. However, that’s not to say that everything in these older homes is perfect.

“The creepiest thing was doing the laundry in between spider webs,” Milford resident, Elaine Hunter said about her historical home.

Hunter lives in the Ward-Hunter home, which was the second stop on the Milford Historical Home Tour. The Hunter family has lived in their home for 12 years.

“we purchased the house in 2004 and have made many renovations to it,” she said. “My husband and I have been very fortunate to travel the world and collect pieces to place in our home. My favorite thing is the blackboards on the walls because it is all original.”

The Milford Historical Home Tour was a major success and many people from around the area attended. There are many historical homes throughout Milford. Every year certain homes are chosen for people to view and learn about their historical significance. The home tour has been going on for 40 years now. Every September, five homes are selected for people to walk through and admire for their beauty while learning about their history. Two homes even have a privy dig in their yard, otherwise known as an outhouse!

In addition to the tour, the Milford Historical Museum was open all weekend for people to check out. While at the Ruggles-Ziembroski home many jaws dropped.

“This is the most exquisite and historical home that I have ever seen,” tourist Sandy Jean said. “This is by far my favorite home and I hope it is on the home tour next year!”

The Ruggles-Ziembroski home was popular. Their home is modern and looks like a house one might see in Hollywood! They had new furnishings and furniture everywhere! They also had the newest technology, like Apple products. There were always people at the door waiting for booties to put on over their shoes before they entered the home.

“We just love people being able to see all the historical significance of our home,” homeowner Ben Myrle said.

Another home that was always booming with people was the Potter-Weisberg home. This home had much historical significance with a modern vibe. There was always a line of people waiting to view the home!

“This home was my favorite because I love how they turned a historical home into a modern home,” tourist Cathy Lee said.

The 2016 Milford Historical Home Tour was yet another great turnout, which made it a great year! Mark your calendars for the second week in September next year! It is sure to be a weekend you will not forget.
