Magic Club is a small but highly active after school activity at Milford High School.

With around only eight members, the club remains a mystery to many of the other students.

Despite its name, Magic the Gathering does not involve pulling rabbits out of hats and mystifying tricks but rather a trading card game similar to renowned titles such as Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh.

In order to play, each person must have a deck generally consisting of 60 cards with 24 being lands and 36 being other cards such as creatures and spells. The ultimate goal of the game is to bring the other player’s life to zero with both players starting out with 20 life.

Held in room 209, Magic club begins after school on Thursdays and is open to players of any experience level.

Mr. Vosk, host of the Magic club since 2003, explains that it is a great place for students to hang out and enjoy playing Magic.

“I never really played Magic before the club, but the kids eventually got me into playing as well,” he said.

Mr. Vosk continued to explain that the amount of people fluctuates due to kids getting their licenses, dealing with jobs, and just trying to find time around other out-of-school activities.

All students are welcome to join. All they need is a deck of cards, which can be borrowed from a friend or purchased for around $15, and an open mind to new experiences.

Feb. 4 is the second chance draft for players to compete against each other in order to get to one winner. Anyone who is interested in Magic the Gathering should go down to room 209 to meet like-minded peers and to have a fun time!
