Milford Sports Teams Read To The Kids at Heritage Elementary

If you could make reading a little more exciting to do, would you do it?  If it meant meeting and reading with a Varsity athlete at Milford High School?

A few weeks ago, the Milford Girls Swim Team and the Milford Boys Soccer Team took a trip down to Heritage Elementary to read to the younger kids.

The two Milford teams both wanted to reach out to the community, so what not a better way than to walk down the street and get involved with future Mavericks?

“We really wanted to do something together as a team to give back to the community,” Senior swimmer Claire Crouse said. “So, we decided to visit the younger kids who will be possibly coming to Milford in the future, and read to them and talk to them a little bit about what we really do as a school.”

Going to the elementary wasn’t only a great experience for the younger kids, but also for the older kids as they got to see what the future faces of Milford looked like.

“Going down to the elementary school was such a great experience. We went from classroom to classroom reading a story to each class, and talking to the kids about high school and what it will be like for them,” said Senior swimmer Olivia Adams.

Mitchell Hayes, a Junior Soccer player, said reading to the kids wasn’t just “an assignment” their coach gave them because it was the right thing to do, it was something they were all interested in and it was a fun activity to try, and in the end turned out really well.

As this was the first time that teams have gone and read to the children, and it turned out to be a success, both teams hope to return to the elementary school next year and brainstorm even more ways to get involved with the kids and have the same great experience they did this year.
