It’s Cider Mill Time

Here is your guide to local cider mills in the Huron Valley Area

The leaves are dropping, the days are shorter, and the cider mills are enjoying their busiest time of the year.

Around Milford, there’s not many cider mills that are very close. This leads to more of a diversity when choosing the right cider mill to visit. If you’re going to commit to the drive, it should be worth it!

The first and most common cider mill that many students go to is the Long Family Orchard. Long’s is located on East Commerce Rd. in Commerce, and is the closest to Milford.

Like most cider mills, Long’s offers fresh apples, apple cider, and donuts, which can come in both plain and cinnamon sugar flavor.

This cider mill also has other activities for all ages, including the hay ride, nighttime corn maze, petting farm, and more. A popular attraction for those going to Long’s is the U-pick apples which, as it implies, lets you pick your own apples to purchase.

“I like Long’s,” said Junior Tim Forkin, ”It provides the perfect cider mill experience.”

Diehl’s Orchard & Cider Mill is another visited site for Milford students, located on Ranch Road in Holly. Many may recognize this name for it’s Ciderfest Run, which was recently helped by volunteers in both our Spanish club and Spanish classes.

Diehl’s also offers apples, apple cider, and donuts, with a large selection of apples such as Honeycrisp, McIntosh, Ginger Gold, Gala, Golden Supreme, and Empire, which are pre-packaged but can also be mixed together in a variety basket for a discounted price.

In terms of activities, Diehl’s offers a picnic area, hayrides, a playground, and a corn maze. However, this year the corn maze is discounted due to shorter stalks. Diehl’s also offers parties and other activities, which require appointments to be made.

“The donuts, the apple cider, and the caramel apples are the best!” said Hunter Poser, Junior.

Spicer’s is also an honorable mention, which can be found in Fenton on Clyde Road. Some students may remember this cider mill from elementary school field trips through Huron Valley elementary schools.

Along with cider and donuts, Spicer’s has an extremely large selection of fall apples, with 14 kinds to choose from.

Similar to Long’s, Spicer’s lets you pick your own apples. It also has a large playground for children, as well as hay rides and even bounce houses to play on.

“Spicer’s is probably my favorite cider mill,”said Junior Jordan Misaros
