“Disney‘s animated sequel, a buddy-cop comedy about anthropomorphic animals, debuted to $158 million in North America and $401 million overseas, delivering a stunning $559 million global tally over five days.”
Zootopia 2 is the fourth biggest worldwide debut in box office history following “Avengers: Endgame,” “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” and “Avengers: Infinity War.” Additionally, it is the highest animated global opening of all time. This movie has become a smash success that went far beyond everyone’s expectations.
And I believe the amount of success this movie achieved is well deserved. Zootopia 2 was not just your typical animated movie; they had created one of a kind, with a spectacular set of characters. The movie is very deserving of its success, having an amazing storyline.
In the beginning of the movie, Judy Hopps continues her routine of waking up early, now with Nick Wilde. It is shown that Judy had made a significant impact on the city from the first Zootopia movie, by having a wide range of animals on the ZPD (Zootopia Police Department) team. Though she still has not found her place yet as her and Nick are always in conflict. They are threatened by Chief Bogo (Chief of Police) to attend a “Partner in Crisis” Counseling or else they would be split. They both feel a bit of fear, and need to talk about their issues together, especially Nick. In this counseling, they are joined by other pairs facing problems, including some troublemaking, chaotic, and hilarious duos.
From there, Judy and Nick are assigned to a case involving a snake that is seen as dangerous, named Gary De’Snake. This is where the movie really takes off. They suspect Gary to be at the Zootennial Gala party hosted by the Lynxley family, who seek power for themselves. Said gala is hosted at a place with antique journals which hide the truth of reptiles like Gary and would expose the Lynxley family, so they attend but keep a low profile since they can’t be seen by Chief Bogo.
Nick discovers a piece of snakeskin, which then leads him to look at the chandelier, where Gary is hidden. Meanwhile, Judy bumps into Pawbert, a member of the Lynxley family. Pawbert claims he never felt belonged and was not like the others in his family.
Suddenly, Nick gets found, so he needs to find Judy quickly, which she is now chasing after Gary. Gary runs into a dead end, and Judy tries to explain she is good and intends no harm, however Gary does not understand that. Nick ends up finding them, along with a bunch of cops that are chasing after him, so they need to escape quickly.
Afterwards, Gary and Pawbert are introduced as a duo, determined to uncover the truth of the journals. Gary and Pawbert are trying to take it into their own hands, but they need the journal that Judy and Nick have. Currently, Judy and Nick are finding clues to this mystery with the journal, but Gary and Pawbert want the journal too.
The movie did an excellent job presenting the problems at hand while setting up more challenges and obstacles to overcome.
Something I wished they would have done was to get an update/call from Judy’s parents, after all of what happened in the end. Every time Judy and Nick had done something problem-causing it would appear on the news channel, and Judy’s parents would call to see if everything was okay, but her parents had not called in the end.
Aside from that, Zootopia 2 is a very well-crafted, creative, and engaging experience that keeps you interested.
