Over the past couple of years, the movie industry has produced action packed superhero movies, but “The Avengers” really stands out. If you put the final battle scene from “Iron Man, “The Incredible Hulk”, “Thor”, and “CaptainAmerica: The First Avenger” all in one scene, you still won’t get the excitement and thrill that this movie provides.
Directed by Joss Whedon, who also directed “Cabin in the Woods”, “The Avengers” brings so much to the table and yet it has an original plot of saving the earth. An army of powerful aliens, lead by the god Loki, is trying rule Earth’s people. Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, forms a force called S. H. E. I. L. D (Strategic Homeland Enforcement Logistics Division). It is called the Avengers Initiative and it bands some of the most powerful super humans together to save planet Earth.
CaptainAmerica, Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) is one of the leaders of the team. He was an essential character because he is the leader and the first superhero and tries to bring the team closer together. Iron Man is the genius engineer with the smarts and humor, but under the armor he is the “genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist”. The Hulk and Thor are the strength of the team; they both can take down anything in their way. Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, and Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner, are the agents which help the heroes in their missions. All of these different roles for characters played a significant part in the movie by making them see how they can all contribute to the Avenger Initiative.
One of the best scenes to show how they evolve into a team is where all of the team members are in the lab arguing about the team. There was complete separation of the team at this point because all of them want and know different things. Stark and Banner argue with Rogersabout how the team isn’t the best and will fall easily. Soon, all of the members are arguing before Loki’s forces attack the ship. Even when the ship is under attack, Thor and the released Hulk fight each other. While all of this was going on you saw the members slowly become a team. Thor and the Hulk are fighting, but they settle out their differences for the same cause. It was an exciting thing to see the characters slowly evolve into the team after this point.
Putting all of these characters in one movie could have been risky because sometimes their roles can hurt the movie’s performance. In this film, that did not happen. The actors meshed well together as if they have done it before. Their roles in the movie were not disorganized; they all synchronized with each other’s roles to the movie. No one actor or superhero stole the show because they all had to put their abilities together as a team to produce a great all around film. Plus, they all had humorous scenes, which fit into the move well and it didn’t seem out of place. Humor was put into places were it should be.
This made the action so much better because the viewer knew what was going on. Sometimes a lot of action can make the film look messy and can confuse the viewer. The first “Transformers” had amazing special effects and was an overall good film, but the last battle scene was a bit eye tangling. It had too much going on at once and the transformer’s one-on-one fighting made some confused. “The Avengers” did not do this; the cinematography that the Whedon used made every ounce of entertainment seen clearly.
A person watching the film knew that everything before the last heroic fight scene was just building up to it. There was humor and information that was given to make the climax a wonderful spectacle to see. A viewer could just feel how everything that was shown before the climax was really forming something large and entertaining at the end. This film did a really good job doing this for someone who has or hasn’t seen the other superhero movies before this. If you missed the prequels, it doesn’t matter because it connects all of their stories flawlessly.
“The Avengers” was a film that brought so much to the table and it dealt with it as if it was done before. There was action and humor that made the movie play out very well. Once the movie is done and over with, the viewer will feel very eager to see it again.
