Imagine being up on the tea box, hands sweating and blood rushing. The ball is right in front of you. You swing it’s going straight and BAM, all of a sudden the ball is heading straight into a pond. The game of golf is often described as a game of patience, but it’s really a game of consistency and persistence. Other sports rely heavily on speed and strength, while golf relies on steady focus. Every swing, putt, and round is part of a larger process, so when a bad shot occurs, many tend to get very frustrated. In a way, golf mimics life; progress never reaches perfection– it’s the singular moments that lead to success.
High school golf is often more enjoyable while still maintaining a competitive edge. Golf is structured with team tournaments and matches. Tournaments consist of 18 holes and a couple of other schools, while matches consist of 9 holes played against one team. While golf might be thought of as an individual sport, many friendships bloom on the course.
Our 2025 Milford golf team is 3-3 with a total of 11 points. On September 29, our girls played in a tournament at Pontiac Country Club, placing fourth of seven with 390 points. With Elsa Yount, a senior, shooting a 94. On August 20th, a preseason tournament was held at Brent
wood Golf Club, where Milford took fourth place once again. Despite a few tough rounds, the team continues to show determination and improvement.
Coach Hugh Felt’s coaching focuses on his players’ improvement rather than just results, saying that every player has grown more confident throughout the season and through every tournament. While junior Autumn Milkyway shows big improvement, bringing the team to higher scores.
As the season comes to an end in regionals, no one was sent to states, but everyone is looking forward to next season. Our girls final match was Sep 25, 2025, versing Walled Lake Northern, where the girls came to a tough
loss to Northern by 31 strokes.
The players focused on sharpening their short game and building consistency under pressure. “Our goal isn’t just to play well,” said junior Lily Clickett, “It’s to enjoy every round and keep improving together on and off the course.”
As the fall season ends, the Milford girls golf team can be proud of everything they have accomplished. They’ve shown hard work and dedication through every match and game. Even though everything didn’t go perfectly, the team stayed positive and kept growing as well as forming new friendships.
