After the success of last year’s “Princess Night,” the Milford Theatre Company held the fundraiser again on Sept. 17th with a revamped cast of characters, titled the “Storybook Bash.”

The 30-minute show began with Cinderella and Prince Charming taking stage and reenacting how they met. The kids in attendance were delighted, especially when they were brought up on stage as special helpers, assisting their idols in retelling the story.

The rest of the show featured other beloved characters, such as Elsa, Snow White, Belle, Ariel and more. Along with these familiar faces, new characters like Batman, Superman, and Spiderman were present.

“We wanted to be more inclusive to boys. Young boys don’t come for princesses, so we had to branch out,” explained director Megan Weeks. “Bringing in superheroes also helps include more of our male actors.”

After the show, the kids got to meet their heroes in the LGI. They made arts and crafts, had singalongs, and overall had a great time. As the children walked out of the building, their faces were aglow with smiles.

It was clear that the actors and actresses were having a great time too, especially the boys who got to spend their time portraying classic superheroes.

“I chose Spider Man as my part immediately. I really like Spiderman and so do the kids,” said Senior Nate Davis. “If I could do this again, I probably wouldn’t change my role.”

Unfortunately for the seniors, they won’t be able to participate again; however, this event could be an annual occurrence for the actors and actresses in other grades.

“I’d love for this to happen every year. I really do put it upon the students, it’s their event. If I have a willing group, we’ll make it happen.” stated Weeks.

It seems there will be another willing group based on how much the students enjoyed this.

“I really enjoyed being a part of this. I loved making the kids happy. Being Wonder Woman was great because I know there were little girls who came to see female superheros,” Said junior AnnaMarie Storbeck-Pelc. “I’d love to be a part of this again.”

img_2137The event itself raises funds for the Milford Theatre Company, but the majority of the money comes from the Rent-A-Character forms that allow parents to rent out several of the featured characters for birthdays. The funds will be going to the fall musical, The Addams Family, specifically the live orchestra.

With a willing group of students, we may see the characters take to the stage many more times in the future.
