Nanowrimo has Milford students writing novels in a month

Alex Barron, Staff Writer

As you may know, big changes have happened in the library, one of them being the ability to participate in an event called Nanowrimo in the month of November where students attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in only a month! Mrs.Breen, our new school librarian, prints up writing tips daily and students come in whenever they can on weekdays from 2:00-3:00 to work on their creative writing pieces, although “a lot of students choose to work independently at home, which is fine as well, as long as we have words getting out it is a great program,” said Breen.

On the first of November students went to Nanowrimo.org to set up a free account where they were asked personal questions to set up a personal profile in order to meet and share stories with other young authors interested in similar story or personal topics. After signing up, the more students write and participate on the website, the more virtual badgest they earn. This website plays a big part in the program as it allows young writers to get inspired and gives them a chance to pursue writing, even if it is a hobby or even a possible career option.
